Petty Sessions
CAUTION TO HAWKERS.—At the County Petty Sessions, held at the Justices Hall, on Saturday last, Peter Mc’Conville was brought up before the sitting Magistrates, charged with having carried and exposed goods for sale.—It appeared that on Saturday morning and on other occasions, Mr. Thomas, Supervisor, remonstrated with him, and advised him to obtain the usual license, but which only met with abuse in return.—a Constable was sent to watch his movements, and when about 2 miles from the town, he called at a house and endeavored to sell some shirting, but failed,—the constable then stepped up, and notwithstanding the protestations of his "Friend from the Sister Isle," turned his face towards the Justices Hall, where he was mulct in the sum of £10, but as the amount was not forthcoming, he stood committed to prison at Shrewsbury until payment should be made.
The Act under which the conviction is made, contains a provision, that the term of Imprisonment should not exceed 3 lunar months.
